Just an idea that I stole from www.canadianfamilieswithgalactosemia.com. What about gift baskets for new families? I love that idea.

That is a great idea!
I think that would be marvelous! it could include recipes and tips and phone numbers for support, and of course the usual cute baby stuff!
I called Similac (Abbott labs) about donating formula samples for gift baskets. The person I talked to said they did not have any programs currently but that she would talk to others because: "That is a really good cause." She suggested we ask our pediatritians for samples.
Maybe we should contact the canadian group to ask for a list of items they put in their baskets and maybe they have connections that we can use. Having formula in the basket is tricky because there are so many varieties out there and there are expiration dates to be concerned with but if we can work with a pediatrician and they are willing to give us their samples when we ask that may work.
I was thinking too that if we cannot get actual samples we could contact the three big ones and ask for some of those valuable coupons they send out to new moms when you register on their site. Sometimes they will give you a check for $11 off the cost of the formula.
